Prepping Supply List – Food

This is my list of food supplies that I have begun stocking up on over the last few months. There are certain items that I know will be almost impossible to get once a disaster happens so I want to have as many of them on hand as possible. My goal is to get to a six month supply of everything on this list, then move on to my next list of supplies. I have additional lists for water, health related items, medical supplies, tools, hunting gear, camping gear, fishing gear, clothing, etc.

I have tried to break the list down by food type – i.e., keep all of the canned meats together, the starches together, etc. just to make it easier for me to find things on my list. This helps me take a quick inventory of items that I will need before I go to Kroger, Walmart or Sam’s Club to pick up additional items.

I do not have every item on my list yet but I am getting closer every day to my six month goal for most of these items. I usually pick up a few items each time I make a trip to the store so that I don’t break the bank trying to stock up all at once.

Some of these items will probably be deleted from my list and additional items added as I continue to stock up. I know that some of the items can be made old school style so as I learn to do this I will keep those ingredients and stop buying the pre-made items. I hope to have all of the hard to find items on my shelf before TSHTF!

Update – 12/5/12 – I have surpassed my 6 month goal and have moved on to long term food storage now! I am using food grade 5 gallon buckets and mylar bags to store rice, beans, pasta, sugar and flour. I also plan on adding some dehydrated fruit and some emergency food storage meals to round out my food supply efforts.

I will publish my additional supply lists as I begin working on them. Some of them are close to complete just because I already had most of the necessary supplies on hand – fishing supplies are an example of this because I live near a large fresh water lake and I like to fish!
