    1. We have hawks and owls here….no issues as of yet….these birds are pretty big…nearly as big as a hawk at week 4-5…..by 6 weeks about the size of the average laying hen….big birds…so far no issues…but there’s always a chance

    2. @Stoney Ridge Farmer I’ve had red tailed hawks and owls kill full grown hens out in my yard before here in Indiana. At least you have the covered shelter for the chicks to run and hide.

    3. @Mark Boucher ,
The chickens have to learn to dodge the hawks at the proper time. A good big rooster that loves his girls is also helpful . I had a rooster that kept a Great Horned Owl at bay inside of a chicken tractor. The rooster had control of the center while the owl stayed in the corner. I suppose that the owl wasn’t used to prey that would fight back and attack him / her. The owl kept a wary eye on the rooster as it sidled by to fly away out of the lifted chicken tractor.
That rooster will die of old age or in a fight. No soup pot for him. He more than earns his keep .

    4. @Stoney Ridge Farmer Our hens are the big white ones and they still got attacked. We had to put a roof over their pen area. We have the roof and a hot wire down low. Dad has lost about 8 birds to Hawks and the stupid buzzards.

    5. @Donald Miller Yes, I forgot to mention, get a big badass rooster to protect the chicks! One rooster will protect the roost and will defend it with his life!

  1. Nooooo! I pounded the like button and broke my screen! Get Soresto collar; vet put me on it few years ago, no ticks nor fleas. Except on me. I hate them nasty devils.

    1. Agree, and they last 8 months. You can get a good deal on eBay where some sell collars intended for non-English speaking countries. I’ve bought them twice, and they are the real thing. Lots of ticks here in Arkansas.

  2. josh keep in mind that truck bed gets hot enough to burn there feet keep a section of carpet in back of truck to keep it from getting too hot .

  3. I’m getting chickens next year and this is one of the channels I’m using for research before hand. Great informative videos.

  4. I was driving down the freeway once and two dogs jumped out from the back of a pickup. They were hit by several cars. I only hope they died before suffering.
